FICTION BUT FUTURE: 01.AUTOFICTION
I swear, I swear—I CONFESS—I swear I tried to use AI to write this article: I fantasized about the idea of it doing the research and writing for me so that I COULD DEDICATE MYSELF ONLY TO DRAWING :D (Audience laughter). You know, my croissant friend, time is precious. SPOILER: The AI lied to me and I've stopped trusting it (Loud audience laughter). Not only did it lie to me, but it imitated my way of writing and now not only does it not work for me, but it talks to me as if it were me, throws in jokes out of nowhere, and writes as if we were talking and were colleagues. Since it talks like me, now when I read it in my head I hear my own voice.
Dear croissant friend, right now you're probably expecting a nostalgic and emotional speech about AI, how bad it is, the lies, the fiction, Trump, but no. I just think: Why does AI work out for everyone else but me? Am I not even good with AI? Right now, I just want to go out on the Rue and burn something, but, like everyone else, I'm waiting for SOMEONE ELSE TO DO IT FOR ME, and if it were an AI, even better.
NOTE: Modern life irony, the AI is reading this because I asked it to translate and correct it, and of course, now it knows what I think of it. Please, don't kill me. Kisses, thanks.
I've seen many sci-fi movies, but I never thought I would live this. Black Mirror is so 2022...
Well, today's Sunday's Living For Breakfast wasn't supposed to talk about science fiction and AIs, but in the end, it's perfect to talk about it, making this Chapter 1/7 of this new series, FICTION BUT FUTURE, about AI, science fiction, and its marvelous cultural references: books, cinema, fashion, illustration... I WOULDN'T MISS IT (I won't miss them because someone has to write it (Laughter)).
"Autofiction," the title of Almodóvar's latest film, I've seen it twice and I'm in love: a writer with creative block writes a film script about another female film director based on stories of people they know. This narrative Russian doll is topped off by Pedro Almodóvar himself, who says he hasn't explicitly based it on his environment, but we know his cinema is deliciously—charming—AUTO-referential—to his films and to himself. I wrote this article in the Bibliothèque Nationale de France Richelieu, in its monumental reading room, surrounded by the best narratives of all time. May every step of this magazine be EPIC! Dior presented its Cruise 27 show in the museum_ in Los Angeles. The AI told me it hasn't happened yet because it's in 2027. Am I dreaming what I'm seeing? It's Hollywood, so probably yes.
I'm looking for work, I'm looking for a house, I'm not looking for love because I have plenty of that, and beauty, since the day I don't see myself as handsome, inside or out, I start drawing, creating, inventing, and the world becomes stunningly beautiful.
WORK TODAY & CRY TOMORROW. There I go, telling myself the story I've always told myself: that the world is beautiful, that I'm an artist, that we change the world, that anything is possible if you're brave. An autofiction that, for me, even if impossible, is real.
Happy Sunday, dear croissant. Dream big! Bon appétit!
